He did not detain me or anything drastic, just advised me to watch the road signs carefully. It left me wondering if he did not trust the booklet, but he trusted the naija license more, as it was laminated. I was surprised, cos my friends had done everyting, as they always do when I'm in the States, to discourage me from driving (even though it is decidedly inconvenient). I showed the trooper my international drivers license (you know that green booklet, works in Europe, but never used it in the States), and he was like 'do you have a license from your own country?' Then I showed him my naija license, and he relaxed. This was in Buffalo, Upstate new York (Amherst). this year, for the first time, I drove in the US while on vacation. I'm not sure the driving laws in the US are uniform, anyways.
